An Armistice Autumn Amble came out of a walk around the Palace grounds in Armagh in 2020.
An Armistice autumn amble
Past palaces proud and prim
As church, cathedrals and chapel
Ring out their timely din
Grand beech and birch and bramble
Drop leaves of luster light
Reflecting rain a rustic red
Is it blood pouring from their flight
They fought for all small nations
For Empire and for King
Or a pair of boots and three square
A the pension that death would bring
All prayed to God in churches
That victory would be theirs
The Hun the Brit and volunteer
Marched up those celestial stairs
The propaganda was swallowed
Millions and millions died
The Arch duke's death was revenged
In a gore filled bloody tide
And underfoot you scramble
Like those in trenches deep
Below skies of light dimming
You walk while they do sleep
.
